]]> http://stalzerphotography.com/blog/?feed=rss2&p=1173 Val and Kosta ~ An Amazing Greek Wedding! http://stalzerphotography.com/blog/?p=1156 http://stalzerphotography.com/blog/?p=1156#comments Tue, 15 Jun 2010 13:34:14 +0000 John Stalzer http://stalzerphotography.com/blog/?p=1156 Our Saturday started out at 745am with a monsoon as we made our way to Des Moines for our wedding this past weekend.  Both John and I were on edge, because we knew just how badly Val wanted to have outdoor photos in her parents back yard in Waukee.  As we keep driving, the rain starts to let up, and by the time I dropped John off at the downtown Mariott to join the boys, it had stopped completely.  WHEW!!!   From there, I met up with the girls in Waukee, and had an awesome time seeing them laugh, tell stories,  and get ready for the big day. 

 Val had previously told us about this perfect little spot out on a dock behind her parents house. This was where she wanted the big moment of seeing Kosta for the first time on their wedding day to happen.  And as i drove up to her parents house, I saw the very place she had mentioned.  It was every girls dream spot.  Overlooking a beautiful pond, gorgeous land scaping, flowers, trees, etc. It WAS the perfect spot!   As we open the door to head down to the dock… it starts to sprinkle! And truth be told, i was worried about her hair and her shoes, but all she had in her head was the perfect fairytale start to her wedding day, and wasnt about to let a little sprinkle stop it.  Val, I am SO glad we went to do dock, because out of every image we captured on your wedding day, THAT one moment in time, where you guys stood there in the rain, is the image that takes my breath away. 

 A big thanks to Frank, Debbie, Perry and Janet for a day full of new experiences for John and I, AND for hosting one HECK of a Greek reception that we will never forget!

 

 Where we started and ended our day… The downtown Mariott… a GORGEOUS place to photograph.

 We had Val’s brothers and one of the bridesmaids help keep Val dry as we made our way down to the dock.

 Val turns Kosta around out on the end of this dock, and you can see the incredible love he has for her in his smile. The rain sprinkles just add so much to this moment… It truly was that fairytale moment.

 A gorgeous image out infront of the house.

Val had a great idea for a photo on this couch, but as John was shooting it from one angle, I found another angle I loved… her SHOES!   I ran and grabbed a marker and started writing… later in the day, Val told me that she had taken her shoes off to see what I had written and it had already scratched off, so wanted to know what I had written!

 A cool shot John took from the top of Va’s parents deck looking back down… one great thing about the rain was it made the grass the most gorgeous color of green!

 The whole wedding party shot.  Little do you know that they were actually standing in a mini-swamp from all the rain that had fallen that morning!  But the image turned out awesome!

 After the wedding ceremony, we took the stretch hummer downtown and found some awesome bridges to shoot on… the color in this image is SCREAMIN!

 Inside the Mariott in the lobby.  We love funky angles and neat backgrounds and this one is killer… maybe im bias, but this could totally be in a bridal mag!

 

And right before we head up to the reception, Val and Kosta do a celebratory WOOOOO HOOOOO jump after a great day of photos!

Its finally wedding season for us at Stalzer Photography and we started off with an amazing couple. Scott and Haile’s Story started in Indianola where they were both students at Simpson College… and also where the decided to get married. :-) Thanks so much to Scott and Halie, and the whole wedding party for making the day full of laughs and a day we truly enjoyed!

Scott shared a story with us as we were walking around campus, that THIS VERY BENCH was where he knew that he was going to marry Haile… they sat their one night for hours just talking about everything and nothing. And years later, we are there again on their wedding day.

Scott was notorious for his “fake smile” so I had to bust him on it regularly to smile better…

 

 The church didnt have air conditioning, so we were all quite warm while doing photos… Haile found it necessary to help Scott out on this one :-)

 

At Simpson, we are told that you walk through these pillars as a freshman and walk back the other way when you graduate… we found it pretty fitting that they walk through them as they start a new life as husband and wife.

Miss Lacey has been a family friend of John’s since shes been born, or so I hear. See Lacey’s dad and John go way back to the Hockey days at Skatetown.

While we were waiting for Lacey’s fiance, Steve to change into his shirt for pics, I got to hear lots of stories about “back in the day” and many Skatetown stories that probably shouldnt be repeated. HA!

In any case, Lacey and Steve did absolutely amazing for pics and you could totally tell that they were into each other. Their wedding is coming up quick this August and will be held at the Marshalltown Country Club and then reception there also. I promise we will get some AMAZING photos and I’ll be sure to blog them for everyone to see!

Check out below for some pics of our new FLIP HD Cam! We got it all customized ( I put a pic of me and my little girl on it) and got the biggest amount of memory we could obtain! And let me tell you, it freakin rocks.  I also intend on doing little monthly blurbs with it about whats up with John and I around the studio like what we are building outside, what new ideas we have for poses, and just general craziness that happens around here between us!

WOO HOO!  We started off our wedding season March 21st and made it through another great year rounding it out last weekend.  And our last wedding with Cape and Colleen was one to remember!  We did almost all the photos outside at Elmwood Country Club and everyone battled the cold, but the images were worth every goosebump!

Please forgive me. We are wonderfully blessed to be busy this time of year, but last night at 10:30, it hit me, I HAVENT put Matt and Katie on the blog! WHOOPS! So, heres a little about their wedding day and pictures to show the fun we had.

 

John and I arrive at First United Methodist Church at proceed to get set up, while Katie and her girls are finishing the last of their make up, etc. I walk in to take pics of Katie getting into her dress and the girls are laughing  HYSTERICALLY, which already shows it was going to be an awesome day. Lynn had learned a new word over the weekend ( which will remain UNSAID) but the girls couldnt quit laughing over it all, and I even ended up giggling along with them after I heard the whole story!  After the laughter had subsided, Katie got into her dress and we started the day.  There were tons of amazing images captured and in spite of it being FREEZING cold at the Country Club, we had a great time photographing at the reception.  A huge thanks to Matt and Katie’s parents, Gordon and Jean and Jack and Linda for the wonderful time.
